Transition

A permanent state of transition is man's most noble condition. Juan Ramon Jiminez

Yesterday I attended a funeral for the father of one of my friends. Now, for those left behind, there will be a time of transition. This reminded me of how we live our entire lives in transition from one place in time to the next, from one experience to the next. So we're constantly moving out of something into something else.

We rarely think of this phenomenon, unless the experience is a painful one, like losing a loved one or a job, ending a relationship, facing a health or money challenge, the kids grow up, moving to a new place, etc. We take note of these things, and we must consciously work on moving through an adjustment period. But do you realize that within this transition, transitions are taking place? The past is always a memory, and the future never arrives. So we move from moment to moment without noticing that all we're ever in is the present.

The present, like a note in music, is nothing but as it appertains to what is past and what is to come. Walter Savage Landor

We never stand still. We're always moving forward, but as we move through each day, we don't notice we're moving along in time. We don't see much difference between noon and 6 pm. But within this short time period, we're planning the rest of our life. We create our tomorrows by what we do today, and this can have far reaching consequences.

Every chemical reaction has a transition state. Derek Harold Richard Barton

Do you ever feel like you're in a rut, going nowhere, not moving at all? Well, it's impossible to be stuck, because you're always in transition. Every thought leads to another space, but it may feel like you're standing still, because you're creating similar circumstances. How about creating something new. Even a small change can help us experience this transition mode. And there may be something pretty good around the corner.

The world is round, and the place which may seem like the end may also be the beginning. Baker Priest

Every moment in life is important. Every breath we take counts. Every thought we have influences our future in some way. We take care of the big things in life, we suffer with the losses, we create ways to survive the challenges. We are remarkable beings. And if we pay attention, we can feel the joy of life in each day as we view each moment as a new beginning.

Take the good memories with you and look to the future with hope. You are always moving. Enjoy the journey.
