2012-2

Here in Florida when we see a hurricane coming our way, some people prepare for the onslaught. And some don't. That's how I see 2012--the earth's energy is shifting, and this is a year of great change. Look around the world and notice what you see--unrest and upheaval everywhere. Even Mother Nature is on a rampage. You might say that none of this has anything to do with you, but if you live on the planet earth, this negative energy can influence every area of your life.

Our outer world generally involves health, relationships, work, finances, household, etc. And oooh, how complicated managing all this can become--in fact, chaotic. This is a time when old ways will not work as they have in the past. But each of us has the power to set up a new direction for our life. Old habits die hard, but they can be replaced by a wiser, stronger and more fulfilling path. I don't buy the dooms day theory, but it sounds like a storm to me. So I figure I might as well prepare before I get physically, mentally and spiritually caught up in the chaos.

Storms make the oak grow deeper roots. George Herbert

Many people just do what they've always done and aren't aware of behavior patterns. But you have to understand what you're doing before you can change it. So here goes my first list of life issues--what do I do and how do I do it? That's a biggy by itself. But now, with more clarity, I can create a direction for change. This time I'm aiming for simplicity with a statement of intention (that's powerful). I'll create a plan to clear out old ways and situations, and shift my energy to new ways of living. Clutter holds stagnate energy and impedes forward movement, so the clutter has to go. That's a big job, but it will free up the energy I need to address my issues.

I'll create a list of changes I want to make and organize my time to do it. I'll pay attention to details, take note of what I've overlooked in the past, and work on developing a different way of life. And I'll put reminders around my house, so I don't get lost in my old patterns. Each night as I review my progress, I'll express gratitude for the good I found that day.

The idea of moving out of the old into the new seems like gigantic undertaking, but it will be good to face each day knowing I'm moving forward with more peace and love. And maybe I can share some of it with a world much in need of what I'm finding now.

Next week--the inner work.

2012

Welcome to 2012, a year of many predictions and much speculation. For years we've heard rumors about the year 2012 and what it will bring. I've heard predictions that range from "nothing unusual will happen" to "the world will end." I guess many of us have an opinion about this year, but there's one thing we speculators agree on--it will be a year of change, more so than in the past. I've heard various predictions involving a number of ways in which change will take place. and for the next few weeks, I'd like to share my thoughts on what I believe is coming and what I'm doing now to prepare for 2012.

I believe this is a year of forward movement at accelerated speed, and we must move quickly in a positive direction to change our own individual lives in positive ways. Even now we see increased chaos, upheaval and darkness all over the world that can have a harmful effect on our physical, mental and spiritual life. But each of us has the power to make changes in the outer and express light from within to transform the darkness for a more loving and peaceful world.

Our own thoughts, feelings and actions influence our quality of life. So if we continue living as we have in the past, stuck in old habits and behavior patterns, we'll find that old baggage holds us back from moving forward. This is a time of great opportunity to grow and become more of what we want to be. And we have a choice. We can either be content with the status quo and be swept along by a sea of negative energy or we can move into the future with purpose, stability, and renewal.

This week I'll be working on a list of outer and inner changes I can make in my life to create positive results, in spite of what happens in the world around me. I already have a mental list of things I've put off doing (I'm sometimes a procrastinator), so those will be at the top of my list. This may end up being quite creative, and creativity is the juice that keeps us feeling alive.

If you're interested in coming along for the ride, I'd like to hear from you.

See ya next week.

Benny's Light

Lord help me to make rainbows instead of cloudy days.
Fill my life with hope and joy and love in all my ways.
Help me to see the truth of me and those who's lives I share.
Help me to honor their presence and let them know I care.

A tribute to one who cared.

I recently attended a memorial service for Benny Bennett. He left suddenly without warning in the quiet little town of Orange City, Florida. The memorial hall was filled with people who knew him--really knew him. I heard him in their stories about a simple man with long hair, blue jeans and plaid shirts, who quietly walked in the woods, worked with his hands and loved people. I saw him on their tear-stained faces, and I felt him in the love that blessed us all. The beautiful guitar music, played by his son and his son's friend, reflected his life--his fall from broken homes into years of alcohol and drug addiction, then conquering his demons he became an Addiction Counselor where his beautiful light touched the hearts and lives of all he met.

Many years ago Benny and my children played together, but somehow we became separated. Then last year through my book, Silent Echoes, our families were reunited. And I saw the little boy who never grew up, but an old soul on a mission. I treasure that day when love found our two families and gave us time together. When I think of Benny, I remember who he is. He is that light that will always shine.

In closing I want to share an old Indian message:
Do not stand on my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamonds glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripening grain. I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uprising rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die.

Blessings to you.

Plant In Firm Soil

When we think about another year, most of us want something better than the last one, but we tend to follow the same path year after year. Our mind has a lot of thoughts, dreams, plans etc for the future, but it's our inner feelings and beliefs that determine the quality of our life. Every seed that's planted needs a good foundation to grow, and so it is with the ideas from which we create our future. Are you moving in the right direction or are you listening to those old tapes leading you down the same old path?

To be authentic is literally to be your own author ... to discover your own native energies and desires, and then to find your own way of acting on them. Warren G. Bennis

Much goes on inside that we're not aware of. Many times each day we act without thinking, and we create as we go along. No wonder we don't end up where we wanted to be in the first place. The better we know ourself, the better will be our life creations. We need to stop and pay attention. Be the observer, and learn to become more aware of yourself. Explore your strengths, your weaknesses, your fears, your likes and dislikes--anything that helps you understand yourself better. Then notice your habits and any patterns in your behavior.

Self-knowledge is the great power by which we comprehend and control our lives. Vernon Howard.

Once you identify how you react, think and feel, begin asking yourself "why" you react, think and feel the way you do. And listen to your answers. Asking "why" helps you delve deeper, know yourself better, and find ways to make wiser choices and decisions--thus the ability to break old patterns, release the old and create the new. Changes you make on the inside will bring about positive changes on the outside. Plant your ideas in firm soil so what you want will manifest in your life this year.

Seek, find and create.
